Hey everyone!
took a day of rest before I felt like actually gettin down to business and writing something up for my Wondercon experience.
I arrived thursday still pretty sick and not feeling all to well for most of the day. I spent most of my time in the hotel or walking around and checking out what was hot at the local comic shops in San Fran. Woke up Friday feeling loads better after getting a full nights sleep on some awesomely soft pillows and headed to the con. Things were going great, bought a bunch of comics and then headed off to the Darkhorse booth for my portfolio review. It went great! The editor liked my work, gave me some tips for submitting to the company and really didnt have anything majorly bad to say about my work. I was pretty stoked. So the rest of the day went great, spent about twenty minutes chatting with Sean "cheeks" Galloway the character designer for the Spectacular Spiderman animated series and he introduced me to the rest of the production team who happened to be at the con as well. So things went awesome for a first day. Saturday was just as great. I attended a bunch of panels about whats what and who is who for DC since ive never really read any of there comics and discovered just how awesome the Green Lantern and Wonder Woman actually are...I recommend picking up those books, they are tight!
The rest of the day I spent buying up art-books of my childhood heroes like art adams and J. Scott Cambell, talking with Adam West and getting the voice of Erin Esurance's autograph. One of the biggest highlights for me was bumping into Mike Mignola the creator of Hellboy in my hotel elevator listening to him talk about what to do when you a crappy artist on your book. I was tempted to say "you know, im submitting to Darkhorse..wanna see my work?" but decided not to. The comic book industry is small and editors and creators like to talk and gossip about who doesnt make deadlines or who they dont like...i dont wanna push my luck, lol
Anyway Sunday I made a quick run down to the con bought up some more Green Lantern and a few Buffy The Vampire Slayer comics, since they seem to be the top sellers for Darkhorse (they actually arent that bad...Joss Whedon writes them...He's good at what he does) And headed out to the airport. All sorts of terrible things happened from that point on...delay after delays, I spent five hours sitting at that airport and then while the plane is getting going the power shuts off...apparently someone bumped the power switch...seriously, that was what they told us...
Anyway, the con was great, learned alot and am hella excited to get an editors approval and the fact that she urged me to submit some work to Darkhorse..using some of their characters this time (her only complaint about my portfolio) really got me excited.
Well that sums up my weekend, talk to you all later and wish me luck!
see ya!
oh, and kudos and thanks for wading through my massive pile of text, lol
